Kujirakuminushi Nakaokeyashiki (House of the Nakao family, master whale catcher)

Starting from mid Edo period, over 8 generations and 170 years, the Nakao family based in Yobuko built their huge fortune by hunting whale and greatly impacted the development of Yobuko. This was the house of Nakaoke family. Some 250~270 year-old houses were painted in "Ogawashima Whales Battle", which is a painting that shows the whale hunting offshore in Yobuko, are a must-see. You can learn the history of whaling inside the building.

Ogawashima island

Yobuko is the path of whales going north of Tsushima Strait. At the forefront, there is Ogawashima which was prosperous because of whaling from Edo period to the Showa 30s. There still are whale seeing place and pagoda for whale inside the island. It is good to look around Genkai Sea and feel the whaling history.

Kagamiyama Observatory

Kagamiyama is a power spot in Karatsu that is passed down in mythology, such as the legend of Princess Sayohime. From the summit of 284 meter high, you can overlook the magnificent natural beauty and terrain such as the Karatsu town streets, Nijinomatsubara pine grove, and the coast line.
